COVID-19

Relevant standards

  • 4.1 - The pharmacy services provided are accessible to patients and the public

Why this is notable practice

The pharmacy is using its website to clearly communicate information about its COVID-19 vaccination service. This helps to ensure the service is accessible to people.

How the pharmacy did this

The pharmacy was providing a COVID-19 vaccination service from associated premises. It had some received feedback suggesting there was some confusion about the location of the vaccination site, as it was a short drive from its registered premises. And this meant the pharmacy saw an increase in enquiries at the registered premises, which was contributing to workload. The pharmacy used the feedback to inform changes to the its website. And it began to use the website to communicate clear information about the vaccination site.

A flash alert placed on the homepage of the website informed people that the vaccination site was not located at the registered premises. It provided a link for people to click to obtain more information about the site. This included a map of the local area and the address of the vaccination site. Additional information about COVID-19 vaccination groupings and a link to the national booking system were also available. The initial flash note also promoted the Government message on COVID-19 testing. And it signposted people to the NHS COVID-19 information pages for additional information on topics including symptoms, self-isolation and test and trace.

What difference this made to patients

The changes to the pharmacy’s website are helping to ensure that people have clear information about how to access the vaccination service. The pharmacy is also supporting the provision of accurate information on COVID-19 and the vaccination programme. This helps support uptake of the vaccination in the local community.
