  • 4.2 - Pharmacy services are managed and delivered safely and effectively

Why this is notable practice

The pharmacy is proactive in offering a delivery service to vulnerable people who are shielding during the COVID-19 pandemic.

How the pharmacy did this

The local GP practice, from which the pharmacy received the majority of its prescriptions, had routinely annotated the summary care records of people who were in an at-risk group. It had also produced a list of these people and had supplied a copy of the list to the pharmacy. Having access to this information had saved the pharmacy time in identifying people who required their medicines to be delivered. The pharmacy team had gone on to contact the people on the list by letter to offer a delivery service.

What difference this made to patients

Vulnerable people, who are shielding according to government guidelines, are able to sign up to a delivery service that they may not otherwise have known about. This allows people to remain at home without worrying about how they will get their medicines.
