Why this is notable practice
The pharmacy has identified physical steps it can take to support its team members delivering frontline pharmacy services to the public during the Covid-19 pandemic. It has done this by installing plastic screens between all staff and public areas.
How the pharmacy did this
The pharmacy had recognised the importance of protecting the health of its team members during the Covid-19 outbreak. It had taken physical steps to protect its team members by fitting plastic screening from ceiling to counter level. The screening encompassed the whole medicine counter area which effectively protected team members from coming into direct contact with people who may have the virus. The screening was professional in appearance. And included signage advising people to stand at least two metres apart from people when waiting to be served, or at the medicine counter. The screening included a small hatch for team members to hand-out medicines and provide counselling.
What difference this made to patients
People can continue to access the pharmacy during the Covid-19 pandemic. Pharmacy team members are protected from coming into direct contact with a person who may have the virus. This means they are less likely to become ill with the virus themselves. So, can continue providing frontline pharmacy services during this difficult time.
