Relevant standards
- 1.1 - The risks associated with providing pharmacy services are identified and managed
Why this is notable practice
The pharmacy is risk-assessing people who are already using its delivery service as well as new people who want deliveries. It is taking additional precautions when delivering medicines to people in flats where there is a communal entrance.
How the pharmacy did this
The pharmacy contacted each person to ask if they were self-isolating, had any symptoms, or if they were in an at-risk group. This was used to assess the priority of the delivery and to advise the driver if they needed to take any additional precautions. The driver had been issued with antiseptic wipes and hand gel in case there was a flat with a communal entrance. The driver was routinely knocking on people’s door and standing back until the door was answered.
What difference this made to patients
The assessment helps the pharmacy to prioritise the deliveries and to give information to the drivers about any additional precautions they may need to take. This in turn helps to keep people relying on the delivery service safe.
