AYP Healthcare (9011523) - Improvement action plan

Standard not met Reason Action being taken by the Pharmacy By when Notification By Pharmacy Improvements Made
1.1

The pharmacy is not able to show it has properly considered all of the risks associated with its services.

A document which was created when we assessed the quantity of medication and what questions to ask will be amended to show what points were considered in our decisions.

3.1

People access pharmacy services via websites. But the websites do not make clear which pharmacy is actually providing the service. This may cause confusion and means people using the service may not be able to make informed choices.

- It will be stated in the “NHS repeat prescription” and “Care Home services” section that the dispensing will be done form the London branch to provide more clarity.
- The pharmacy no longer dispense medication from "Man Behind the Mirror".

4.2

The pharmacy has some safeguards in place to help it supply medicines safely. But the safeguards are not always effective and pharmacy policy is not always applied to control sales as intended. The pharmacy asks questions before it sells a medicine so it can check whether it is suitable. But it sometimes supplies medicines more frequently than should be needed, or in larger quantities, without checking why they are needed.

- Greater restriction would be considered on the quantities of medication sold in one go.
- Pharmacists will be required to contact and document any patients/customers contacted for sales of quantity greater then the recommended. Proof must be kept to show that those patients have been contacted and why the sale should be continued i.e. recommendation of doctors etc.
