1.6 | Records for the supply of private prescriptions and procurement of unlicensed specials are not always maintained in line with regulations. |
Records for the supply of private prescriptions and procurement of unlicensed specials are scanned and kept in a secure folder on the main dispensing computer in the pharmacy, this data is then backed up by Proscript Connect, an external laptop and an external hard-drive. In the event of a computer malfunction we would be able to produce the original documentation in the event of a query from the 3 further sources where this data is backed up. Unfortunately, I was not aware of this information on the day of the inspection and received clarification from the Superintendent Pharmacist following the inspection. The superintendent pharmacist has also confirmed that original prescription forms will be retained. |

2.2 | Pharmacy team members do not always hold the appropriate qualifications for their roles. So, the pharmacy may not be able to demonstrate that team members have the appropriate skills for the jobs that they do. |
Following the inspection both of my counter staff members completed and passed the medicines counter assistant course. Following the inspection, one has also now been put onto a level 2 equivalent Dispensing assistant course and is currently on module 2 of this course. Following the inspection, one team member has completed and passed the dispensing assistant course and is now a qualified dispenser; She is now going to be put onto an accuracy checking technician course. She has also successfully completed the Level 2 award in understanding health improvement and is now a healthy living pharmacy champion. My other dispensers are nearing completion of their course and I will be putting them forward for the final assessment after I have carried out my Pharmacist Assessment Observation on them. |
