Hills Pharmacy (1093041) - Improvement action plan

Standard not met Reason Action being taken by the Pharmacy By when Notification By Pharmacy Improvements Made
4.3

Some medicines present in the dispensary had been repackaged and were not appropriately labelled. And some had passed their expiry dates. This means the pharmacy cannot provide assurance that all its medicines are in good condition or safe to use.

Regular 3 monthly date checks will be resumed. This will be achieved by allowing protected time for each staff member to conduct a thorough date check to their assigned area of the dispensary.
All medicines with short expiry will be listed under month and year of expiry. At the beginning of each month these medicines will be removed from original storage area and either used safely before the product expiry or put in medicine waste bin for destruction. This will be decided by the duty RP/manager each month.
Extra care will be taken by staff when checking stock in for any short dated products from wholesalers to avoid accidental dispensing of such product

No medicine will be repackaged unless a valid reason is known to all staff, in this case all appropriate labelling requirements will be met to ensure integrity of product for its safe use.

Any split pack medicines will remain in their original packaging and split packs will be kept to a minimum.
