Trustmed Pharmacy (1088231) - Improvement action plan

Standard not met Reason Action being taken by the Pharmacy By when Notification By Pharmacy Improvements Made
3.2

The layout of the pharmacy is badly designed for the number of people using the service. It fails to protect the privacy and confidentiality of people who use the service.

Short-term:
- Seek approval from the Trust’s Capital Monitoring and Investment Committee (CMIC) for emergency funding to proceed with the short term plan.
- Build a warm shelter outside of pharmacy for patients to wait in case they do not wish to go to the coffee shops.
- Staff counselling from Booth 2 to consistently use counselling room to counsel patients on their medication. This area to also include sensitive areas such as IVF and infectious diseases.
- Have a tracking system where prescriptions can be tracked so that the pharmacy team are not spending a long time tracking prescriptions which may not have been received from the clinic.
- Place appropriate signage for patients outside for prescriptions sent by the clinic following virtual outpatient consultations.
- Also explore if patients queuing for prescriptions following virtual clinic can be informed by member of staff if prescription has not been received, to reduce the queue and pressure on the team.
- Purchase buzzers/suitable IT system that allows the waiting area to be prioritised during busy periods for frail/elderly patients and parents with children whilst other patients have the option to go to the nearest coffee shop in the Windsor or Osborne buildings.

Medium Term:
- Seek approval from the Trust’s Capital Monitoring and Investment Committee (CMIC) for emergency funding to proceed with the medium term plan.
- Consider moving virtual work to another small hub. Additional actions for this to take place:
o Robust communication from the Trust to the clinics regarding collection of medicines by patients.
o Refurbish the hub at the Leicester General site suitable to operate as a pharmacy.
o Register the hub with the GPhC
o Ensure appropriate staffing available to operate in the hub.
- Explore the possibility of a text message system via the tracking system.

Long Term:
- Seek approval from the Trust’s Capital Monitoring and Investment Committee (CMIC) for emergency funding to proceed with the medium term plan.
- An updated business case with revised costings and formal plan to be submitted to the TGH Board
- Either expand the current space or provide suitable space within an appropriate location in the hospital with inclusion of a dispensing robot.
