Elm Park Pharmacy (1083413) - Improvement action plan

Standard not met Reason Action being taken by the Pharmacy By when Notification By Pharmacy Improvements Made
1.7

The pharmacy does not always keep people's personal information appropriately secure. It dispenses medicine in multi-compartment compliance packs in an area that is visible to the public. And medicines that are waiting for collection are stored in an area that is visible to the public and people’s personal details are visible.

The refurbishment of the designated dispensing area has now been completed. Preparation of multi-compartment compliance packs (dosette boxes) is carried out in a private area away from public view. Medicines awaiting collection have been relocated to a secure area not visible to customers or members of the public.

4.3

The pharmacy does always store its medicines safely and securely. It cannot demonstrate that it stores medicines requiring cold storage appropriately. The pharmacy does not record fridge temperatures daily for all its fridges. So, this makes it more difficult for the pharmacy to show that the medicines inside are safe to use. The pharmacy does not always store medicines which require secure storage appropriately. People that are not employed by the pharmacy are allowed access to the dispensary to use its facilities. And access is not sufficiently restricted to an area where medicines are stored.

Daily recording of fridge temperatures has been implemented via the ProScript PMR system. Both fridges are now monitored and logged each morning to ensure temperatures remain within the required range.

Access to the dispensary is now restricted exclusively to authorised pharmacy personnel. The Post Office owner has been formally informed, and the previous practice of shared access has been discontinued.
