CD records are not accurate and transactions are not entered in a timely manner

All CD prescriptions have been entered and all CD registers have been balance checked. I have arranged with Ken Dale to visit the pharmacy to check the registers and destroy out of date stock. A system is in place to enter all CD invoices and prescriptions within 24 hours of dispensing.

The pharmacy lacks systems to review and manage the safety and quality of services it provides.

All new staff members have been registered with the NPA for healthcare assistant training and one current staff member has been registered on the dispensing assistant course. We have employed a full-time apprentice who is happy to complete her dispensing assistant course in the future. I have a dispensing assistant who is very close to completing the ACT course, which in turn will make me available to complete other roles within the pharmacy.

The SOP relating to OTC purchases and in particular the purchase of medicines prone to abuse has been updated and signed by all staff members.

The SOP file has been read and signed by most staff members, I anticipate that the new staff members will have read and signed the SOPs by the end of July.

All staff have been encouraged to make entries in the error log.

All prescription labels are initialled by dispenser and pharmacist.

The pharmacy does not manage and store medicines in an organised manner. Some medicines are not stored in their original packaging and have not been appropriately labelled.

The date checking/cleaning matrix has been updated and put on a rota. All medicines that were loose on the shelves have now been destroyed and staff members have been informed that when dispensing any medication that does not require a full original pack, they must use a tablet box for the quantity required and leave the remaining amount in the original pack of the shelf.
