Stock

All stock areas tidied and organised

Positioning of similar sounding/look alike medicines reviewed and, if necessary, highlighted with ‘select with care’ stickers.

Brief all pharmacy team members on the importance of using the ‘pack scan’ function to avoid selection errors

Positioning/organisation of stock to be reviewed whenever stock is being date checked.

Team re-briefed on Boots Model Day procedures and stock storage requirements

Controlled drug running balances

Running balances of controlled drugs will be completed as per SOP requirements

Emergency procedures

Updated Business Continuity Plan available in the emergency bag and on the store notice board


Emergency cascade contact details updated and available within the dispensary

Responsible Pharmacist (RP)

Brief team on requirements for RP advanced declarations

Returned medicines

Retrain team members on the SOP for the receipt of patient returned medicines, including Controlled Drugs. Confirm and record understanding and compliance on the training log

The pharmacy deploys team members in such a way that for periods of time there are not enough suitably qualified and skilled team members to provide its services safely and effectively.

Resource

Weekly review of team members skill mix and staff planning to support workload requirements

Training

Schedule regular training time for all pharmacy colleagues

All colleagues will be given the option to plan in time to work alongside a Columbus expert to support their competence and confidence in using this new system

Workload

Arrange meeting to discuss lack of access to prescribers and delay in issuing repeat prescriptions, alongside other external factors affecting pharmacy workload, with practice pharmacist/NHS Lothian representative

Controlled Drug patient returns will be destroyed monthly, or more frequently if required

All medicines are stored within a manufacturer’s original pack or dispensing box with batch number and expiry date present
