4.3 | The pharmacy doesn’t manage and store all its medicines appropriately. Pharmacy team members remove medicines from their original blister packaging. They don't store these medicines appropriately. And they don't label alternative containers appropriately. This includes no batch number and expiry date. So, the team doesn't know if these medicines are fit to supply. Or if they have been the subject to a medicine recall. |
The action we have taken is that we arranged a staff meeting to instruct all staff members to ensure they know how to label primary and/or secondary packaging with the batch number and the expiry date from the original packaging. All our medicines that were inappropriately labelled and stored were identified and subsequently disposed of into the yellow Bins. Staff were also instructed not to mix different batches of the same medicine in case of a medicine recall. |

5.3 | Pharmacy team members use mobile telephones to temporarily store some people’s confidential information. This information is not stored securely. So, there is a risk of unauthorised access to people’s private information. |
We have proceeded to change our Care Home dispensing system, in advance we will be provided with copies of our patient’s repeat prescription backs from the surgeries after they have processed the request sent from the care home, so we will be able to dispense all our care home patient’s trays on time without risking their confidential information as we will have only the physical copies, so no electronic copies will not be stored on any mobiles. Finally, once the Care Home dispensing has been concluded, these copies are appropriately destroyed as we would with any other confidential waste. |
