The pharmacy does not have enough staff to manage its workload effectively. There are times when the pharmacy has to close due to staffing issues which may result in people not being able to access the services they need. And there are examples of people not receiving their medicines in a timely manner.

Review the staffing rota for the next 6 weeks and ensure maintenance of a 6 week planned rota in future.

Identify gaps and plan cover.

Complete a staffing and capability review to identify if the staffing and skill levels are appropriate for the workload.

Initiate recruitment process for either 2 part time vacancies or 1 full time vacancy.

Finalise recruitment relief colleague and allocate initially to Swaffham.

Explore staff swap opportunities with neighbouring region.

Regular visits from Area Manager.

Plan in support from Team Leader – initially 4 days per week on site.

Coach team on stock management and dispensary standards.

Liaise with the Professional Resourcing Team to ensure full pharmacist coverage and to improve continuity of pharmacist cover.

Areas of the dispensary are very cluttered which present significant health and safety risks to team members working in the pharmacy.

Remove any clutter on the dispensary bench and at the pharmacy premises.
• Declutter the pharmacy
• Unpack all boxes
• Ensure all CF packages are scanned and placed on the shelves.

Establish designated storage areas for deliveries from wholesalers and empty tote boxes to ensure pharmacy team can access fire exits. Ensure all stock received from the wholesaler is placed on the dispensary shelves immediately on receipt.

Establish and maintain defined work spaces for dispensing and checking.

Tidy the dispensary shelves to separate stock more effectively to reduce the risk of any selection errors.
