Montague Pharmacy (1033107) - Improvement action plan

Standard not met Reason Action being taken by the Pharmacy By when Notification By Pharmacy Improvements Made
1.6

The pharmacy does not carry out regular checks of its higher-risk medicines. And it doesn’t maintain accurate records of these, including records of medicines that have expired. So the pharmacy cannot show how these medicines are suitably managed in line with legal requirements.

Team to increase checks of high-risk medicines, including at times of dispensing. Expired medicines will be recorded and destroyed straight away to avoid any confusions and pile up of expired/patient returns. Training to begin to move from paper-form to electronic records of high-risk medicines.

4.3

The pharmacy does not check or maintain records of the operating temperature ranges of the fridge it uses to store medicines. And so, it cannot demonstrate that medicines that require cold storage continue to be fit for purpose.

All staff have been informed to record the Fridge temperatures on the PMR computer first thing in the morning at 9am.
An extra digital fridge thermometer has been installed to double check the readings.
Monthly Fridge Temperature reports can be printed from the PMR for analysis.
The Fridge has a built in Alarm that would bleep if the temperatures are outside the 2-8 degrees.
