This makes it more difficult for it to know that the medicines are safe to use. The pharmacy does not have an adequate expiry date routine. This could increase the risk of people getting medicine which is past its 'use-by' date. And the pharmacy does not always ensure that it stores its medicines securely. |
we have resolved to using one refrigerator to store our medicines, and have a spare refrigerator as standby in case the one in use is out of range. the main job of our 16yr old employee is now to constantly date check all medicines, with an instruction to flag and remove from shelve any medicine within thirty days of expiry. more importantly, every medication is checked for is fitness for purpose ie expiry date at the point of dispensing, in case anything is missed out. medicines delivered are usually left beside our counter in sealed boxes. i will now ensure any opened box is brought into the dispensary immediately for checking. |
