Allcures Pharmacy (1031032) - Improvement action plan

The pharmacy cannot show that it always stores its medicines properly. It cannot demonstrate that it stores medicines which require refrigeration appropriately. It does not always remove date-expired medicines from stock promptly. And this could increase the chance that people get a medicine which is past its ‘use-by- date. It does not keep all its pharmacy-only medicines in areas which would prevent self-selection

We have redistributed the stock in the fridge in order to ensure there is adequate air flow and will be using a data logger to monitor the temperature in the fridge for two weeks. Following the two-week period we will analyse the results to determine our next steps. Post inspection, staff have been retrained to action the fridge when temperature falls above or below 2-8 C i.e. Moving stock to improve airflow, moving probes to different shelves and checking the fridge in intervals of 15-30minutes when outside the required range and recording it on the reverse of temperature record sheet. We've date checked thoroughly and removed all expired medication and marked all short-dated stock. Date checking will be done every two months, along with stock rotation as illustrated by a newly redesigned date-checking table we have produced here. We have also moved the counter forward so the pharmacy only lines are behind the counter and will be placing a barrier to the side of the counter so patients cannot go beyond the counter.
