Last inspection: 10/09/2025
Since January 2025 our inspection reports are more concise and accessible - find out more about the changes
Pharmacy context
This is a community pharmacy located inside a large health centre in the town of Nelson, Lancashire. Its main activity is dispensing NHS prescriptions. It also supplies medicines in multi-compartment compliance packs to some people who need support in taking their medicines correctly. The pharmacy offers a home delivery service and the NHS Pharmacy First service.
This was a reinspection of the pharmacy following an inspection in February 2025 where the pharmacy did not meet Standards 1.2, 1.7, 3.1 and 4.3. This inspection focused on the Standards that were not previously met. The pharmacy has improved since the last inspection. Pharmacy team members are regularly auditing the pharmacy’s dispensing process and reporting mistakes and learning from them to reduce the risk of recurrence. They implement changes to the way they work to improve patient safety. The pharmacy has improved the way it manages both confidential and general waste to ensure the risk of an information governance breach is mitigated. It has acted appropriately to improve the way its medicines are stored in its dispensary to reduce the risk of mistakes being made during the dispensing process. Further improvements have been made by ensuring medicines are secured from unauthorised access. And it has removed medicines that were stored without records of expiry dates or batch numbers.
