Pharmacy context

The pharmacy was located in a Health Centre and dispensed approximately 8000 to 9000 NHS prescription items each month with 65% of these being repeats. Due to the location of the pharmacy, there were a number of ‘walk-in’ patients. Few private prescriptions were dispensed. No patients received their medication in monitored dosage systems (MDS). Enhanced and advanced NHS services offered by the pharmacy were medicine use reviews (MURs), new medicine service (NMS), sexual health, supervised consumption of methadone and Subutex, minor ailment scheme, needle exchange, inhaler re-cycling and ‘flu vaccination. The latter was also offered under a private agreement.
