Pharmacy context
Well is a busy neighbourhood pharmacy located in a small shopping centre that serves a large housing estate in Bridgend. NHS dispensing is the main activity and the pharmacy typically dispenses around 18,000 items per month; the majority of the pharmacy’s prescription items are generated by the local surgery which operates on a 56-day prescribing basis. The pharmacy is also a collection point for MDS trays that are dispensed by the nearby Aberkenfig branch.
The pharmacy provides advanced services (MURs and DMRs) and enhanced services (smoking cessation level two (supply only), the All-Wales EHC service, supervised consumption and seasonal influenza vaccination). It also provides private influenza vaccination under a patient group direction (PGD).
A collection and delivery service is offered to all patients and the pharmacy provides blood pressure measurement on request. It has five substance misuse clients. The pharmacy is open from 8.30am until 7pm on weekdays, from 9am until 5.30pm on Saturdays and from 10am until 4pm on Sundays.
The pharmacy has recently benefitted from a complete refit as one of Well’s concept stores: ‘The Pharmacy Shop’.
