Pharmacy context
This pharmacy is a branch of Lloyds pharmacy next door to a GP surgery near Eastleigh in Hampshire. It dispenses NHS and private prescriptions, sells over‐the‐counter medicines and provides health‐related advice. It also offers other services such as flu vaccinations during the autumn and winter seasons. The pharmacy supplies some medicines in multi-compartment compliance aids for people who find it difficult to manage their medicines. This inspection was carried out during the COVID‐19 pandemic.
Inspection summary findings
Principle 1. Governance
The pharmacy provides its services in a safe and effective manner. People who work in the pharmacy can explain what they do, what they’re responsible for and when they might seek help. They work to professional standards and identify and manage risks appropriately. The pharmacy has made sensible changes to its procedures to help reduce the spread of the coronavirus during the pandemic. Its team members understand their role in protecting vulnerable people, and they keep people’s private information safe. They record the mistakes they make, and regularly review them together so that they can learn from them and act to avoid repeating problems. The pharmacy keeps its records in a satisfactory manner and has appropriate insurance to protect people if things go wrong.
Principle 2. Staff
The pharmacy has enough team members to manage its workload safely. Pharmacy team members are well trained and have a good understanding of their roles and responsibilities. They work well together and can make suggestions to improve the organisation of their work where appropriate.
Principle 3. Premises
The pharmacy’s premises provide a secure and professional environment for people to receive its services. The pharmacy keeps its premises reasonably maintained and has made suitable adjustments to help reduce the risk of spreading the coronavirus. It has a consultation room which it normally uses for some of its services and for sensitive conversations.
Principle 4. Services, including medicines management
The pharmacy delivers its services in a safe and effective manner, and people with a range of needs can access them. The pharmacy sources, stores and manages its medicines safely, and so makes sure that all the medicines it supplies are fit for purpose. It takes particular care to identify people supplied with high‐risk medicines and then carries out the checks it should.

The pharmacy has the right equipment for the range of services it provides. It takes reasonable steps to ensure that people’s private information is kept safe and secure. The pharmacy has also taken appropriate action to help ensure that people can safely use its facilities when accessing its services during the pandemic.
