Pharmacy context

The pharmacy was located in a residential shopping area in Bristol and dispensed approximately 8000 to 10000 NHS prescription items each month with the majority of these being repeats. Few private prescriptions were dispensed. 155 domiciliary patients received their medication in monitored dosage systems (MDS). Enhanced NHS services offered by the pharmacy were medicine use reviews (MURs), new medicine service (NMS), emergency hormonal contraception, supervised consumption of methadone and Subutex (6 patients), minor ailment scheme, urgent repeat medication service and ‘flu vaccination. The latter was also offered under a private scheme as was free diabetes and blood pressure monitoring.
