Door 2 Door Pharmacy (9012866) - Improvement action plan

The pharmacy does not always store and manage its medicines appropriately. It removes medicines from the manufacturer's original packaging but it does not suitably label the containers it uses. And it does not routinely keep fridge temperature records. Higher risk medicines are stored in a disorganised manner. The way the pharmacy manages its medicines increases risk of errors and team members cannot be sure all medicines are suitable to use.

Any loose tablets without expiry and batch numbers have now been disposed of in green waste bins. Going forward all staff have been made aware to always transfer batch numbers and expiry dates (with drug name and strength if using medicine bottles) from original packs onto containers/bottles during split pack dispensing or when tablets are popped out for use in multi compartment compliance packs. Electronic fridge temperature record has been set up on RxWeb (dispensing software) and recorded on a daily basis. The importance of recording fridge temperatures has been discussed during a team meeting to highlight, that just checking the fridge temperature without physically recording it is insufficient. I have purchased an additional CD cupboard and will have this installed by next week. This will create the additional space required to store high risk medications in a more organised manner.
