The pharmacy accesses the person’s Summary Care Record to independently verify their clinical information and, where it is recorded, their BMI. But where the BMI is not available they are using a photograph provided by the person to make this assessment. It can be difficult to verify someone’s weight and BMI from a photo alone. This means people may receive treatment which is not suitable and safe for them to take.

To ensure the patient’s BMI is independently verified we will implement a new verification process. After placing an order the patients will be offered two options to allow prescribers to independently verify their BMI.
The first will be an option to book a video consultation with a clinician which will ensure LIVE verification of BMI. The second option, to suit patients’ needs who may not be able to attend a video consultation slot due to commitments, we have implemented a LIVE video and photo capturing system. With this, patients will be able to take LIVE photos and videos which ensures the media is not
uploaded from a camera roll. This will prevent any editing as the camera opens on the website to take LIVE photos and videos. This was implemented so that patients who cannot make time for video consultation can still access our service and are not denied, by also ensuring safe prescribing.
