1.1 | The pharmacy does not always seek sufficient assurances that medical prescribers issuing prescriptions for aesthetics products have completed a physical examination of the person receiving the treatment before it makes supplies. The electronic prescribing platform does not capture the date when the prescriber carried out a face-to-face consultation for medicines such as botulinum toxins, and the SOP that specifies that this should be checked by the pharmacy team is not being followed. |
The SOP’s within the pharmacy will be amended to reflect our updated and ongoing practices. In response to the insufficient assurances we will be adding to our private prescription declaration that all prescribers must agree and take full clinical responsibility and to adhere to the RPS competency framework. Any prescribers that do not agree to these terms; we will not accept their prescription requests and they will be informed as such to ensure patient safety and safe aesthetics prescribing practices. Where implausible in-person prescribing is detected we will contact the prescriber to clarify any identified discrepancies. Finally, we will seek to ensure that we are processing prescriptions that are face-to-face by increasing the number of random spot checks on prescriptions from (number removed) a month to (number removed) a month. |
