Four Acre Chemist (9010949) - Improvement action plan

Standard not met Reason Action being taken by the Pharmacy By when Notification By Pharmacy Improvements Made
1.6

The pharmacy does not consistently keep appropriate records for some of its higher risk medicines as required by law. And it does not conduct regular audits of its medicine stock to check the correct amount is being held. As a result, the pharmacy may be unable to fully account for these medicines or demonstrate their safe management.

All Schedule 2 products (namely CBPM products) now have dedicated Controlled Drug registers. All incoming and outgoing supplies will be recorded as per the regular procedure for Sch2 controlled drugs. A full balance check was carried out the days following the inspection and moving forward will be carried out monthly for all items and 2 weekly for higher dispensing volume products (e.g. Oxycodone).

4.3

The pharmacy does not always store some of its higher risk medicines securely and in accordance with legislation. This means it cannot always demonstrate how it effectively stores them from unauthorised access.

All Safe Custody Controlled Drugs will only be dispensed at the point of patient collection or delivery. Prescription labels ONLY (no stock) will be affixed to the prescription bag until this point. All controlled drugs will only be removed from the Cd cabinet at this point and never stored for any prolonged period of time outside of the Cd cabinet.
