The pharmacy does not manage and store medicines in an organised manner. It cannot provide assurance that the temperature of its medical fridges is properly monitored. Some medicines in the pharmacy are not stored in their original packaging and have not been appropriately labelled. And the pharmacy does not have a robust date checking procedure.

To go through the medicines stock on the shelves, to tidy up the shelves and to ensure that the medicines are stored in an organised manner. Staff to ensure compliance with the manufacturer’s storage recommendations.

To order a new fridge to ensure safe storage of fridge line items & accurate temperature recordings. Pharmacy fridges temperature monitoring must take place on a daily basis (preferably at the same time each day) and the actual, maximum and minimum temperature should be recorded on the ‘Fridge Temperature Record’ and the thermometer should always be reset. To follow the SOP for measuring and recording the fridge temperature.

To ensure that meds are always to be kept in their original packaging’s and no loose strips should be placed on the shelves. Any loose strip medicines are to be discarded. Pharmaceutical waste is to be stored in the designated bins.

A date checking matrix to be in place and all the medicines stock on the shelves & temperature-controlled items are to be date checked and recorded on the matrix. To follow the SOP for date checking.
