3.1 | The pharmacy is not always kept tidy. Although the shop area is tidy, there is excessive clutter on both the floor and workspace in the dispensary. There are numerous prescriptions awaiting checking which reduces the workspace available to the team to work safely and also increases the risk of near misses or dispensing mistakes occurring as well as causing come delays for people collecting their medicines from the pharmacy. There are also other items including boxes and a fridge taking up floor space in the pharmacy and restricting access to some medicines. This further reduces the amount of workspace available for the team and could present health and safety risks including tripping hazards and injury to team members. |
All the clutter on the dispensary floor and workspace has been removed. We are making sure that medication deliveries from the suppliers are actioned without delay and promptly filed. The totes and boxes are kept in neat piles for the suppliers to collect. Cardboard boxes are recycled without delay. Both regular and recycle bins are emptied regularly.
Dispensing is done in an organised manner. A particular batch of prescriptions are dispensed and checked and filed before another batch of prescriptions started being processed. So, we have control over number of baskets on the workspace in any given time. This prevents the uncontrollable built up of the prescriptions on the workspace and enough room for safe dispensing could be ensured. As there is not any built up of prescriptions at any given time, it has improved the patient experience.
The fridge and other boxes on the floor have been removed. There is no obstacle left on the floor. The is no restriction left to access the medicines on the shelves. We are vigilant about the presence of obstacles that may cause potential hazard, health and safety risk and if found it is readily removed. |

4.4 | The pharmacy cannot demonstrate that it always takes the appropriate action when it is suspected that medicines or medical devices are not fit for purpose. Team members do not all know the process for reviewing and actioning safety alerts and recalls. And not all alerts and recalls are actioned in a timely manner. |
We have registered our email address with MHRA to receive safety alerts and recalls. Those notifications from MHRA have been checked regularly and actioned in timely manner. All the dispensing team has access to the email, they email notifications have been checked, actioned, signed and stored in a marked folder for alerts and recalls only. |
