Burwash Pharmacy (1107887) - Improvement action plan

Standard not met Reason Action being taken by the Pharmacy By when Notification By Pharmacy Improvements Made
1.7

The pharmacy does not always obtain appropriate consent from people before contacting their regular doctors about medicines the pharmacy prescribes. And it cannot demonstrate that it obtains appropriate consent before accessing people’s Summary Care Records.

This point was updated whilst the inspection was in process for the high-risk drug Saxenda, whereby the website was changed so that patient consent was mandatory when requesting this medicine.

For non-high-risk drugs, the pharmacy has never contacted a customer’s GP surgery. However, contact will only be made if consent is given and when clinically relevant.

3.1

The pharmacy’s website allows people to start a consultation from a page which details a particular prescription-only medicine. This could increase the chance that people receive medication which is not appropriate for them.

Ventolin inhalers and Tamiflu have been removed, as these were the pages that allowed a person to start from a page which detailed a prescription only medicine.

On the main treatment landing page there is a message saying weight loss injection pen is not available.
