Elm Park Pharmacy (1083413) - Improvement action plan

Standard not met Reason Action being taken by the Pharmacy By when Notification By Pharmacy Improvements Made
1.7

The pharmacy leaves confidential information in places where it can be seen by people visiting the pharmacy. The pharmacy cannot show that its team members have completed training about how to protect people’s information or have access to written processes that support this activity. And the pharmacy does not ensure confidential waste is always disposed of correctly. All of these issues increase the risk that patient information is disclosed inappropriately.

1) The pharmacy added privacy barriers across exposed spaces where patient information is most likely to be left in view of the public eye. Please see attached pictures of the changes in the email. The “wall” in the front of the shop floor has been requested and will be completed within the next fortnight as the opaque glass pane is on order. Please see the rendered image, attached in the email, to see how it will appear once works are completed.
2) All the pharmacy staff are enrolled with Numarknet / CPPE to complete the following Training – Understanding GDPR + Data Protection. Please see attachments in the email as evidence of the same.
3) The pharmacy now has a contract with Shred-it (Stericycle) company to securely collect and destroy confidential waste, once every month. Please find the contract attached as evidence of the same.

4.3

The pharmacy does not always keep medicines secure and does not store the keys to the controlled drugs cabinet securely.

1) Although we are covering that worktop from any customer and/or patient view/access with a barrier, we have instructed all our front staff that no multi compliance packs will/should be dispensed or prepared at the front counter. There will NOT be any medication left unattended on the counter.

2) For the security of the CD keys:
arrangements have been made to ensure CD keys are stored securely.
