There are not always enough team members to ensure that the pharmacy is up to date with its workload.

From the findings and checking the time sheets and the staff hours in branch for the past two months that the pharmacy was never operated less than six dispensers and one counter staff member every day. Since the inspection took place briefed the staff by visiting the branch identified the weaknesses and advised the staff to plan the upcoming holidays so that staff cover could be arranged. Briefed the staff to inform and discuss with head office if they are getting behind with the work so that extra staff cover could be provided.

The pharmacy cannot show that its medicines requiring refrigeration are stored appropriately.

Since the inspection report has been received, adequate measures were taken to safely store the refrigerated items. Advised the staff to move the stock to the fridge which is working properly, and a new fridge was ordered and sent to the branch straightaway. Check that the temperature sensors are in the right place and are working correctly. Advised the staff to check the temperature and record the temperature if the readings are in the range between 2-8C. Reset the min/max fridge reading and alarm when required if the temperature is out of range.
The out of order fridge’s have been removed from the pharmacy. Staff and RP was advised to make sure fridge doors are closed when the fridge alarm goes off.
Advised the staff to use one fridge for stock and another one to store the dispensed medication and bag the dispensed medication in clear bags. Briefed all the staff to record the fridge temperatures regularly. Advised staff not to overload the fridge with stock or dispensed medication to prevent from fluctuating temperature in the fridge.
