The pharmacy does not always fully label its medicine stock with all required details to allow the status of the medicine to be clearly known.

All FAMA drawers and shelves to be checked for stock which is outwith original container and any such stock identified to be disposed of.

FAMA drawers and shelves to be tidied and organised so that loose strips are easier to identify in future.

On an ongoing basis in line with dispensary date check schedule , FAMA drawers and shelves to be tidied and checked for stock which is outwith original container and any such stock identified to be disposed of.


Stock to remain in original containers or to be disposed of if this is not possible (with the exception of methadone as below)


If methadone is decanted from original container into large volume container for use in Methameasure, new container to be clearly labelled to show that it contains methadone along with relevant Batch Number and Expiry Date.

All MDS packs to be reviewed to ensure they all have correct descriptions of tablets inside


Correct descriptions will be added to MDS trays at each dispensing


Safer Care briefing to be held and documented in order to explain these requirements to all dispensary colleagues.
