| 4.4 | The pharmacy has a system to deal with drug alerts and recalls. But it does not deal with these promptly and there is currently a backlog. So, this increases the risk that people receive a medicine or medical device which is not fit for use. |
We have Pharmsmart already in place. This has Patient safety alerts in place which we regularly review and action. To be more prompt at dealing with this, two members of staff will now be checking and actioning it on a daily basis rather than only the Pharmacist. |

| 1.7 | The pharmacy does not always protect people’s personal information properly. There is a beauty stand next to a shelf containing bagged ready prescriptions awaiting collection. As patients may be able to see other people’s personal details, there is a risk that people’s information is not sufficiently protected. |
We have attempted to relocate all the big bagged prescriptions that may show labels with patient’s information on it. However, due to limited space, we have now put a new policy in place. Only one patient/address label on each bagged prescription, rather than 2 or 3 that may expose patients’ details. Labels must be placed at the bottom of the bagged prescription. Or the bagged prescription must be placed away from the sight of the customers / facing away from the Pharmacy counter. This has been actioned since the visit, and all the staffs have been briefed. The owner has also arranged for a carpenter to come and build a closed cabinet. All bagged prescriptions have been relocated from previous shelves to storage place in the dispensary – out of patients sight. We are no longer building a closed cupboard due to safety issues. |
