Lygon Pharmacy (1038861) - Improvement action plan

Standard not met Reason Action being taken by the Pharmacy By when Notification By Pharmacy Improvements Made
2.2

Most of the pharmacy team do not have the appropriate qualifications for their role and the tasks they carry out. The pharmacy is not meeting the GPhC's ‘Requirements for the
education and training of pharmacy support staff’ as except for one, all other members of the pharmacy's current
team have been working at the pharmacy for longer than three months and are undertaking tasks without being enrolled on accredited training appropriate for this.

The staff were initially enrolled on the pharmacy healthcare assistant’s course but not completed. I have re-enrolled two members of staff and filled out an extension form for the other two members of staff. Another member of staff had been enrolled onto the MCA course, but this has subsequently been changed to the pharmacy assistant course.

2.5

Members of the pharmacy team are inadequately supported. There is no evidence that team members are given opportunities to discuss their feedback or concerns due to the lack of regular updates or performance reviews.

I will conduct weekly briefing meetings, and record details so staff can read and sign. I have obtained performance review forms and will carry this out.

2.4

The pharmacy does not have a culture of learning. Staff are not provided with any training resources to develop their knowledge.

I have enrolled all staff onto the ‘Pharmacy training library’ at Buttercups with individual logins and passwords.

The team have also been enrolled onto e-learning training from Numark.

3.1

The pharmacy premises are extremely cluttered in some places and parts of it are dirty. The retail area looks unprofessional as several unnecessary boxes have been placed here to block off one entrance.

The entrance to the newsagents was permanently blocked off last year. The totes have been removed. An ‘overflow’ box has been created.

5.2

There is no evidence that the safes currently being used to store controlled drugs have the appropriate exemptions. This compromises the security of these medicines.

We have contacted the CD Liaison officer (CDLO) and certificates should be issued in the next few days.
