The pharmacist doesn’t always maintain records in compliance with the law or with good practice. The pharmacy doesn’t always make records in the controlled drug register within the time required by law. Records of patient-returned controlled drugs are not always clear. This makes it more likely that a mistake may be made.

The pharmacy will make records in the Controlled Drug (CD) Register when CDs are received or supplied. The pharmacy will record patient-returned CDs in the patient-returned CD register when received at the pharmacy. The pharmacy will record the maximum and minimum fridge temperature every day the pharmacy is open and take action when necessary.
