2.1

The pharmacy does not have enough team members to comfortably manage the workload. This leads to the pharmacy team working under pressure and stress.

1. Review staffing levels and skill mix to address any concerns through support to existing team and utilisation of appropriately skilled and experienced staff from the wider local network of branches.

2. Undertake one to one conversation with the members of staff to clarify expectation of their role with emphasis on the role of registered pharmacy technicians.

3. Scope suitable candidates from wider local network of branches to identify, recruit and appoint a new manager.

4. Complete and maintain forward planned staff rotas. Assess against workload and identify any shortfalls. Escalate to Regional Development Manager (RDM).

4.2

The pharmacy does not make regular checks to ensure that its medicines are still suitable for supply.

1. Check short dated stock lists recorded on the electronic date checking system against the stock in the dispensary and ensure all out of date stock removed from shelving.

2. Additional relief colleague to be arranged to complete full date check of dispensary and shop floor.

3. Team meeting to discuss date checking process and re-train colleagues to ensure correct process always adhered to (short dated stock identified, recorded and “use this pack first” alert sticker placed on packaging).

4. Ensure a date checking rota is in place and adhered to by the colleagues in the future.

5. RDM to carry out spot check during regular ongoing store visits as appropriate during pandemic

6. Team briefed to include additional focus on the date check during the dispensing and accuracy checking procedure in the meantime until full date check of dispensary completed.

The pharmacy does not have a robust process for actioning alerts and recalls about defective medicines.

1. Team briefed on the importance and requirement to ensure drug alerts and recalls actioned by Central Support are adhered to promptly.

2. All previous alerts and recalls to be actioned and confirmed to RDM when completed.

3. Action drug alerts and recalls promptly on receipt.
