Pharmacy context
An average sized pharmacy belonging to the Rowlands pharmacy multiple. The pharmacy is built adjacent to a health centre with which it shares a car park. The pharmacy is situated in a residential area on the outskirts of Gosport town centre.
NHS dispensing is the main activity with approximately 16,000 prescriptions dispensed each month. The pharmacy generally provides services to local residents who are also provided with an Electronic prescription service (EPS) and a repeat prescription collection and delivery service. The majority of prescriptions are received from the surgery next door with a smaller number received from three other surgeries in Gosport and a number of other across the area. the total turnover of electronic prescriptions is low. The majority of prescriptions are received electronically with the remainder either brought in by walk in customers or collected from surgeries on behalf of patients. Medicines are provided in monitored dosage systems for approximately 140 community patients. The pharmacy also provides a delivery service and acts as a central ‘hub’ for deliveries from other branches of Rowlands in the local area.
Additional services include medication use reviews (MURs) with 40 reviews conducted in a typical month. The new medicines service (NMS) has a lower uptake with 2 patients per month completing the service. Substance misuse services are provided to 20 clients, the majority of whom have supervised consumption of Methadone or Buprenorphine. The pharmacy also provides winter flu vaccinations and Emergency Hormonal Contraception (EHC) under Patient Group Direction (PGD). Other services include Chlamydia screening and Blood Pressure monitoring.
The pharmacy s open 8.30am to 6.30pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 1pm on Saturday.
