Inspection outcome: Standards met
Last inspection: 12/08/2026
Since January 2025 our inspection reports are more concise and accessible - find out more about the changes
Pharmacy context
This is a large independent pharmacy located on a parade of shops in Hornchurch. In addition to providing NHS dispensing services, the pharmacy provides the Pharmacy First service, the Hypertension Case Finding Service, the contraception service, the supervised consumption service and flu vaccinations. It supplies medicines in multi-compartment compliance packs to some people to help them take their medicines safely and it delivers medicines to some patients. The pharmacy also provides private travel and weight loss clinics using patient group directions (PGDs). And it offers an earwax removal service. This was a reinspection following an inspection in November 2025 where the pharmacy did not meet Standards 1.6, 4.2 and 4.3 but was meeting the other Standards. This reinspection mainly focused on those Standards which had previously not been met, and Standards 1.1 and 1.7 were also assessed. Since the previous inspection, the pharmacy had improved its record keeping for consultations relating to its travel health service. The responsible pharmacist record was now largely completed correctly, and the private prescription record contained most of the required information. The pharmacy had now introduced an electronic record for certain medicines; however, it was unable to demonstrate that regular balance checks were being undertaken for all of these medicines. The pharmacy now routinely recorded temperatures for all its medicine fridges, and the records reviewed showed that the temperatures had remained within the appropriate range.
