Pharmacy context
A local community based pharmacy belonging to the Day Lewis group. The pharmacy is located close to GP surgery on a small parade of shops in the midst of a residential area on the outskirts of Farnborough centre.
The majority of the pharmacy’s customers live locally and consist of predominantly elderly local residents although there is a growing population of young families in the area. NHS dispensing is the main activity with approximately 7,000- 8,000 prescriptions dispensed each month. Approximately 80% of prescriptions are received electronically and the remainder are either collected from local surgeries on behalf of patients or brought in by walk-in patients. The pharmacy also provides a repeat prescription ordering and delivery service. Prescriptions are almost entirely obtained from the local surgery with a small proportion obtained from 5 other surgeries across the area.
Other services include Medicines Use Reviews (MURs) and a New Medicines Service (NMS) where between 30 and 50 patients are seen each month for an MUR and 20 per month complete the NMS consultation process. Treatment for weight loss and Erectile dysfunction is provided under a NHS Patient Group Direction (PGD) as are seasonal flu vaccinations and medication for malaria prophylaxis. There is also a smoking cessation service and a chlamydia screening service. The pharmacy provides medicines in monitored dosage system trays (MDS) for approximately 34 patients in the community. Drug misuse services are provided to 12 clients, 6 of which have their doses supervised by pharmacists.
The pharmacy is open from 9am to 6.00pm from Monday to Friday and 9am to 1.00pm on Saturdays.
