Pharmacy context
A supermarket pharmacy in an urban residential location, dispensing around 4800 prescription items per month. The pharmacy served regular customers from poorer socio-economic groups and mainly elderly demographic, who lived locally and was focussed on the core services. The services provided in a significant volume were; Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) for around 65% of all prescriptions dispensed; Prescription ordering; Medication Usage Reviews (MURs) for around 400 patients annually; flu vaccinations for around 380 patients last season and around 90 so far this season, of which 60% are private vaccinations; Around 29 Emergency Hormonal Contraception (EHC) consultations per month. Around 20 travel prophylaxis PGD prescribing consultations per month.The other services provided were; Around four minor ailment consultations per week; New Medicine Service (NMS); Erectile Dysfunction (ED) treatment service; Palliative care dispensing, requested around four or five times a month.Recently introduced services included; meningitis vaccination primarily for patients making pilgrimage to Mecca; Hair loss treatment PGD, prescribing finasteride tablets; Period delay treatment PGD, prescribing norethisterone tablets.
