Central Chemist (1040897) - Improvement action plan

Standard not met Reason Action being taken by the Pharmacy By when Notification By Pharmacy Improvements Made
4.3

The pharmacy does not have a process for checking expiry-dates of medicines. Some expired stock is mixed with in-date stock on its shelves. This means people may be receiving medicines which are no longer suitable to use.

An A-Z date check has been carried out starting with the tablets and capsules. Expired stock has been removed and short dated stock which expires up to the end of Dec 2026 has been highlighted with red short date stickers. Working round the dispensary the liquids, creams ,contraceptives, diagnostic strips, antibiotics, sachets, inhalers and eye/ear/nose drops have been checked. Vaginal and rectal products in drawer, dressings and fridge lines have also been checked. Date check strips have been cello taped at the top of each column. This will alert all members of the pharmacy team to date check again every three months. A hard copy has been filed in the stock date check folder.
