Aspire Pharmacy (1032948) - Improvement action plan

Standard not met Reason Action being taken by the Pharmacy By when Notification By Pharmacy Improvements Made
1.3

The pharmacy does not have a clear process in place to define how non-pharmacist accuracy checkers operate. This makes it harder to ensure that the responsibility for different pharmacy activities including the clinical checks are completed by the appropriate professional.

Pharmacy staff will re-read dispensing
services SOP001, paying particular attention to ‘FINAL ACCURACY CHECK OF PRESCRIPTIONS’ section and ensure that checkers are adhering to the defined processes. Pharmacists who carry out clinical checks on prescriptions will annotate the
prescription form to indicate that the
prescription has been clinically checked by an appropriate professional.

The pharmacy does not always ensure that its team members have completed or are doing the required training for the activities they are undertaking, including dispensing prescriptions and selling over-the-counter medicines. This means the pharmacy can’t provide adequate assurances that team members have the right skills and knowledge to work safely.

Pharmacy manager to review training records and ensure that all members of staff have either achieved, or are working towards, training modules relevant to their role. Staff will be enrolled on either ‘Healthcare Assistant’ or ‘Dispensing Assistant’ Buttercups
