  • 1.1 - The risks associated with providing pharmacy services are identified and managed

Why this is notable practice

The pharmacy is keeping its business continuity plan up to date. And it is sharing details of any changes made to the plan with pharmacy team members to ensure service continuity.

How the pharmacy did this

The pharmacist had drawn up a business continuity plan at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. And had engaged with team members by sharing the plan and encouraging feedback about the new ways of working. The plan was used as a live document. And the pharmacist continually updated the plan in response to feedback and the changing environment. Every team member was provided with a simplified version of the plan each time it was updated. This was easy to follow and gave instructions on how to proceed if the superintendent pharmacist was unable to attend the pharmacy due to illness or emergency.

What difference this made to patients

Keeping the business continuity plan up to date ensures there is as little disruption to service provision as possible in the event that the usual pharmacist is absent.
